Przyszedł na świat zaledwie 11 lat po śmierci innego słynnego rezydenta tej wyspy Napoleona Bonapartego. Legendarny cesarz Francuzów został zesłany na Wyspę św. Heleny w 1815 roku, zmarł tam sześć lat później.
